Two/three marriages
« on: Thursday 20 March 08 10:02 GMT (UK) »

Sarah Mingins (b 1796 Orton, d Thomas and Lucy M) had at least two illegitimate children: Nanny/Ann (1820 Orton - 1886), Lanty/Lancelot (1829 Thursby - 1884); and possibly William (b 1820 Carlisle).
In 1841 Ann was a 20 year-old servant in Castle Carrock and Lancelot was in Thursby, but I can't find Sarah. She may have died, of course, but I would like to eliminate the possibility that she is one of these two, both of whom were born in Orton at the right time:

1841  Sarah Kirk, 35 + Sarah, 14; John, 12; Lucy, 7; Jane, 2 (Carlisle HO107/176/12)
Dec 1842   Carlisle     Sarah Kirk m John Gibson        added later
1851  John Gilson, 41; Sarah Gilson, 53; Thomas Kirk, 18; Lucy Kirk, 16
1861  John Gibson, 51; Sarah Gibson, 61

1841  Thomas Dale, 50; Sarah Dale, 45; John Dale, 6 (Nottingham HO107/871/11)
1851  Thomas Dale, 61; Sarah Dale, 56
She is also there in 1861 and 1871.

Unfortunately my computer is playing up and only allowing me to access certain sites (eg this one and ancestry but not freebmd or familysearch).

If anyone can find the relevant marriages (or other information that would eliminate these two Sarahs), that would be good. If there's no luck with Sarah's first marriage I will buy the certificate for her second which ought to give her father's name.

Obviously one name missing but hope it is of some help to you.

Thank you for that.
There is clearly something wrong with my computer link as I have yet to receive notification of your reply. In fact I have just edited my original post and your reply didn't show until after my changes had been added.
