I don't really know where to start so any help would be appreciated. Matilda Adams Haddow born 1880 in Glasgow, her brother James Haddow, a widower born 1867 in Kilmarnock & his two sons Hugh Davidson Haddow born 1893 in Glasgow & Andrew Burton Haddow born 1895 in Glasgow. They all emigrated to New Zealand around 1898. Any information would be really appreciated Thank you Sue
Hi Sue, Lots of Scottish people settled in Dunedin when they came to NZ. Try Googling New Zealand Genealogy, and you should come up with lots of sites to have a look at. I checked the Christchurch Phone Directory and there is only 1 Haddow listed. Lots of luck. Sheldon.
Only 15 - 20 families in the whole country, I am sure a couple of Postal directories 1910, 1930 and a couple of phone calls, we will have things sorted out by Monday !!!
Thanks to you both for the info. I feel a little nearer to finding out where my ancestors settled! I'm really excited in case you find anything out for me Mark. Thanks a million Sue
Sue, If Mark finds them in Dunedin, try this site. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/barbgreg/ and look for the Caversham Project. They have quite a few electoral rolls etc indexed, it might be of some help. If they arent in Dunedin the site is still extremely interesting for other parts of NZ.
I'm so sorry, I will not be able to follow up this case.
Check the Dunedin reference and ask Riley nicely to help.
Strange that in 1930 Directory most of the 6-7 were in the North Island, But closer examination is needed of electoral rolls and BMDs.
I might be back in a couple of weeks time, so head down and keep on track. Like I said earlier there are only 15 or so in the whole country so will not be to hard.
