The birth was registered in the 1st Q 1947 and the GRO Index is St Geo East
Vol No 2 p114
From this you can order the cert. (if you think it is correct) from the GRO website online at a cost of £7
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
Shout if you need help. Geoff

I am not at all sure if that would be the correct certificate. I see from the Census records that her dob was consistently given as 1847. If you do order a cert. don't forget that you can give a cross reference for example the name of her father, and then if it is not correct you obtain a refund of £4 so it only costs £3. Hope that is clear. Geoff

Hi Geoff
Now I don't think it would be the correct certificate as I can see a Mary Ann Elizabeth Marshall on both the 1851 and 1861 Census born St George East 1847 and it does not correspond to your Mary Elizabeth Geoff

A possible but risky because there are other Elizabeth Marshalls born Lambeth and it is a little early for the registration. Aged 4 at the time of the 1851 census would be 4 on the day of the census (30th March in 1851 but the date of each census varies between March and as late as early June).
Births Mar 1846 Marshall Elizabeth Mary Lambeth 4 298
Since Mary's mother was also named Elizabeth it may be that in Mary Elizabeth's case her names were transposed for the practical reason of distinguishing her from her mother on a daily basis.
Were Mary's siblings births registered (there was no punishment in place for a lack of birth registration until 1875) so it is possible Mary's birth was not registered?
Did Mary's siblings have two Christian names or is likely that Mary added another or the orginal was changed.
Have you found Mary's baptism which might give a date of birth?
St George in the East is in the East End across the river Thames (in Middlesex at the time).
Regards
Valda

You might have done this, but it might be worth contacting Lambeth Register Office and asking if they have the birth registered for 1847 with the names of parents, which you have. Sometimes they can be very helpful. Good luck
