Yep saw that but the placing of same lot in Grt Chesterfield in 1851 looked to add up .......cannot read birth places in 1851 hows ur eyesight?

This is really great, thanks for all your efforts, it does mean I need to order yet more birth certificates !
( the dog says it all !!!!)
The dob may be wrong for William snr and Mary Anne, I got that from someone on Genes-re who wasnt too sure and may explain why I cant find them on IGI,,,,, do you have access to the 1861 census ? may narrow down the good year

thanks for the 1861 details, it looks like the information I received from the chap on Genes-re wasn't all that well researched, but it has given me a start and all your info is getting me there.
I do find it strange that Sarah and Susan ar not on the 1861 census as they would be around 16 then ?
I agree with the june 1845 Sarah Gates V12p252 being the best candidate and I found young Joseph, dec 1837 vol12 p174 and William june 1840 vol12 p174 and Susan is proving to be illusive.
Funny, cant seem to find the marriage of William and Mary Ann Jarvis anywhere, Saffron Walden 1837 ?, both deaths are given as 1900, but I think again, guesswork, no wonder he was vague about certificates !!!!
I'll keep searching and let you know how I get on.
