Can anyone help me establish when Nelson's jam factory at Aintree was built? Apart from that I'd also like to know whether they used stoneware jars for their jam. I suspect these might have been made at Melling Pottery.
There was a jam factory opposite Everton Cemetery Long Lane Walton ..... I'm not sure if it was Nelson's or Hartley's ........ we used to go looking for jam jars to take to school for cashing in to buy dogs for the blind !! ( maybe there was 2 .... it's a long time ago !! ) and I think Nelsons made marmalade in their stoneware pots .... !!

My mum worked in Hartley's before she was married. She had a bad scalding accident when a vat of hot jam spilt on her leg. No compensation in those days and she was scarred for life!!
