Hi -
Think your best course of action would be to send for the marriage certificate - that will give you the location, both father's names and occupations, the ages (hopefully) of bride and groom.

Hi Dave
If you order through the GRO (can be done on line) all you need to put on is the name of either the bride or groom, and quote the gro reference, which in this case is
Sept Quarter 1911. Bedford Vol 3b Pg 703
They will send you that certificate, based on the reference rather than the venu.

shaping up to be an interesting one - the name Gasper is quite uncommon, but the 1901 census seems to have a couple of candidates - including a lad from Crickhowell - Welsh border.
My money is on a lad in Quidhampton (Wilton Dist) who was registered as Henry John, but seems to be just John on the census - father Henry, mum Emma - but as Mum44 says, prob best to get the Cert for this one.....
PS. The 2 lads must be related - Quidhampton PoB figures in both families as does Gamekeeping ...

Hello, Dave,

Death Albert Edward Newman age 32 June ¼ 1897 Bedford 3b 191
This is the only 1901 census entry that seemed to fit for Henry J. Gasper.
1901 census RG13/3204 folio 59 page 1 Dunsa Lane, Edenson, Derbyshire
Sidney J. Gasper head age 35 Head Gamekeeper b Wilts ,..?..hampton Ellen E. wife age 35 b Hereford Woolhope Henry J. son age 10 S. Wales Crickhowell Ada L dau age 8 b Lancs, Knowsley Annie J dau age 7 b ditto Dorothy E. age 5 b Derby Edenson
Registry Offices do need to know the name of any church before issuing a marriage cert, the ONs vol & page nos do not mean anything to them, it means then trawling thro' 3 months,July, Aug & Sept of all the churches in Bedford.
I don't know Bedford at all but looking at the district where Lilian Newman lived & bearing in mind marriage usually took place where the woman lived, I found that there is a St Cuthbert's church in Bedford. Have a look at this site.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/BDF/Bedford/StCuthbert/index.html
This may be the one you are looking for.
Alternatively, as suggested the marriage cert will give you details & you can check whether the 1901 census for Henry J. Gasper is the right one as it will show his father's name.
Good luck,
Meliora

This is the only 1901 census entry that seemed to fit for Henry J. Gasper. but you need to take into account the BMD entries for Wilton before making that stmt

Hi, Meliore beat me to it - I also felt St.Cuthbert's might be a good place to start. Have you looked on the Bedfordshire Family History Society site - they have lots of resources available. It's not easy finding information when you're far away - I'm in the same situation, and found the following book useful: Tracing Ancestors in Bedfordshire by Colin R Chapman ISBN 1 873686 12 9 Pages of information telling you where to find information for the area. Might be useful to buy if you need to find any more information. Possibility might be in the local newspaper. eg. The Bedford Times - the local history library might be helpful and look for you. But it's difficult without a more precise date. Anyway, just a few thoughts. Hope they help - all hopefully will be revealed soon, when you get the certificate. Kind regards, Paulene.
