I remember this thread:

I wonder if the business got off the ground?

Hi

I recently had some old photos restored at my local newspaper office.  We have a regular 'Bygones' paper that has old photos that people have sent in.  The newspaper office has an imaging studio.  Maybe your local paper has one too, its worth a try.  Some of mine badly damaged but they've done a really good job of restoring them

Hi June,
If you can get hold of Adobe Photoshop  6 you could probably restore a scanned copy quite well, I have taken torn pictures and put them back together, eliminated some folks etc.

I can now report that Shanko has done a wonderful repair job on a damaged photograph of mine - I would strongly recommend that if you are looking for this sort of service you contact her.   I am more than happy!

Hi barnsyard, I'd sure love to see a before and after photo. When restoration is done properly it's like magic. To see some real works of art in photo restoration, have a look at the link below. This is the work of a master crafstman or should I say Craftswoman. It may take a little time for some of the pages to load as they are mouse rollover images, but it's well worth the wait.
Look at the section 'Reader Gallery' to see what can be achieved by home hackes like you and me.

Hi Keith, It certainly knocked my socks off when I first saw it. I just had to go out and get the book. It's worth every cent.
