1841/51/61 census Liverpool - BASLEY
« on: Friday 21 March 08 17:53 UTC (UK) »

Would someone kindly look up BASLEY in the early censii please.
I have a marriage of James Basley to Diana Bretherton  in 1862 and can see he is a blacksmith (b. London) in the 1881 census but wondered if there are other families of that name around before that date.

Thank you
Sue

Sue

There are hundreds of Basley's on each census. Are you specifically looking for one family or just those in the London area?

Sue

James Basley - born 1842 - Londonderry, Ireland.
Son of George Basley (1818-1874) and Isabella Brookfield (1817-1889)
George was born in Chester and married Isabella in Liverpool in 1834.
George was also a blacksmith - they are not available on the 1841 census as I believe they had gone to Ireland (work reasons I guess) and in 1842 James was born in Ireland
James is resident on the 1851 census (Liverpool - son of George living at Nash Grove)
He married Diana Bretherton (daughter of John Bretherton & Jane Gorley) 24 Nov 1862. (witnesses John Young and Eleanor Davies - St Peters Liverpool)
He is also resident on the 1871 Census (Liverpool - Blacksmith living @ 3 Turner Street)(this census says birth place 'Ireland, Londonderry'
He is also resident on the 1881 Census (Liverpool - Blacksmith living @ 32 Sheriif Street
He died 24 Feb 1885 (W Derby 8b 287 Qtr 1 1885)
Children:
James
William
Jane
George

Hi Kevin,

That's brilliant, how did you acquire so much information, are you related?

I cannot find a birth for George in the Chester Parish records. There is only one record in the register for Basley and I would say that it is probably his father George's marriage on 15/10/1811 to Mary Griffith at St John the Baptist.  George's occupation, blacksmith - likely?

I wonder if they have come from the Frodsham family, it is not far. More investigation needed, keep in touch,

Sue

Hi Sue

Yes my mother is a Basley.  The James you refer to is my GG Grandfather.

As we said - James's parents were George and Isabella.

Georges parents were George and Mary Griffith.  I have it noted that this George was born in Frodsham in 1784 and he was a Blacksmith.

This George's parents were John Basley and Matha Pauley.  John was born in Frodsham in 1752, I have his profession noted as Tailor - though I have lifted this from another persons research.  He first married a Sarah Robinson in 1771 and then married Martha in 1773. John died in Frodsham in 1808.

John's parents were John (1715-1772) and Mary Ashbrook. John was born and died in Frodsham

John's parents were (though it becomes sketchy now) John Basley and Sarah Ashbrook.

What is your connection?

Hi Kevin,

I have no connection myself, I am compiling the tree as a gift for a friend whos G.grandfather was James.

Thanks for the extra info, I could see the birth of a George in Frodsham and thought that may be him.
