I'm looking on behalf of a friend for the baptism of a Benjamin Thompson who would have been born approximately 1845 and his father was James.
I can't find him in 1861 or 1851 and oddly there is a Nebucadnezzar (great name!) Thompson of about the right age and parentage so would be interested to see if a baptism under this name exists too or instead.
Hi Smouse, There's a Benjamin Thompson baptised at Ashby de la Zouche, parents John and Hannah (1 Jun 1845). Ashby de la Zouche is about 5 miles from Breedon on the Hill. Might be worth investigating. Info on familysearch.org Kind regards, Paulene.
Father as I mentioned was James so I think that rules out the Ashby one. The Leicester district Benjamin is a possible but I don't think this district includes Breedon.
Still would be nice if anyone could check up on the baptism if it the parish is indexed anywhere.
Hi again Smouse, Obviously need to wake up -- sorry! Can't find Benjamin's birth on freebmd but found marriage for a James Thompson, 1844 (Dec 1844 Shardlow district 19 page 567), wife Frances. Seems Breedon on the Hill was Shardlow district. They're on the 1851 census living at Breedon on the Hill with child "nebuchrdnezzar". You might have this already, not sure. Possibility they might have gone to Leicester to register child's birth, I suppose. Good luck, Paulene
Perhaps Benjamin was illegitimate as the marriage is very close to when I think he was born. Could it be that he was registered/baptised under his mother's maiden name?
You may be right, Smouse! Wife's maiden name: Frances Blood Free bmd: Births Jun 1884 Blood Benjamin Ashby de la Zouche Vol 15 Page 10. But he isn't living with the family with the family - I'll leave you to look into that! Happy hunting. Paulene.
