Hi Dolly,

         Found this on B.M.D

Julia Francis Walsh b Dec 1843
It also gives her death as Mar 1847

I have PRs for Abingdon but have been unable to find her bap so far.

Hi
It is a member submitted record so may not be accurate.  The birth certificate will, give the mother's maiden name.  She appears to have died young though so you may be barking up the wrong tree!

If she appears on later census then it cannot be the one who died in 1847!
Do you want to give us the census references so we know a bit more about her?

Andrea, thank's for the offer, but I do have all the info I need apart from who John Walsh married.  Ellen on some census and Eleanor ?? on others..

They married 1833 (IGI)  and had16 children that I have found, but Frances was the only one born in Abingdon in 1843.the rest born In Yarmouth..

I know I could send for one of the later born children but was hoping someone might just have the parish Regs. ...Thanks  a lot Dollly..

For reference only, I know you have these already

1851
Ellen is down born Clackton Kent
Hepzibah 17 Born Somerset Frome
Amelia 15 born Somerset Frome
Albert 11 born Guildford Surrey
Frances 8 born Abingdon Berkshire
Jesse 7 Gt Yarmouth
Elizabeth 8mths Gt Yarnmouth

I see that Amelia has 2 submittal entries for her birth on Family search, 1 for Frome and the other Clackton Kent

Ellen is only 23 in 1851 and 31 in 1861.. so I very much doubt she was his first wife. I would guess they married somewhere between Jesse birth 1844 - 1851 if at all.

Thank you all for the input, but only recently I found that there was definately two Ellens'  I coulden't say who the first one was , but the second was
Eleanor McKever . daughter of Felix McKever and Sarah Bearman. It took a great deal of sussing but "Eureka" I have found it ... Sorry I should have mailed to say so, but this family gave me many sleepness nights! and only now am I able to pick up my genealogy again. Cheers  & Thanks again,Dolly

PS  I never found a death of the first Ellen, nor a marriage of John Walsh & Eleanor McKever...

Hi Dolly how did you find the right "Ellen" McKever

I just found, well think I found, Elizabeth's birth with a middle name of Clayton but of course that may not be correct now.

The thing I find strange is that John Walsh calls himself a Master Hatter... that means he takes on apprentices, but if he moves around so much, then he couldn't possibly have apprentices.

Sorry, I picked this up as I hope to go to the Berkshire Archives this week but I really don't think there will be a baptism for Frances there.

Hi JC,  I found Eleanor Walsh (now a widow)  with her sister in the 1901 Census.
Sister was Sarah Mc Ivor (and other versions of the name,) luckily Sarah never married so it was a case of trawling through the Mc's names to 1841.. I cannot actually confirm that I am dead right, but I'm 99% sure, as I also found Felix and Sarah on the 1841 with daughters  Sarah and another sister who was also down as being born in Clackton( I forget her name),

In fact I wondered if indeed it was her ,( but had she  just kept the name Ellen  when she first went to live with Walsh )  as there was no Eleanor or Ellen on the census,  I don't know where she was if that wasen't her ?

Then I also discovered a marriage of Eleanor McKever  to an  Edwin Miles, in  o.n.d 1850 , but by the time of the 1851  census she was with Walsh, I couldn't find a death of this Miles, maybe she left him  and never got divorced !!
All of this  clinched it for me, as you will see she put the Miles in their children's names...

I also found a Felix McEver on Family Search  (Irish)  stating he was born in Derry.  I really think there was a lot of fibbing went on in this lot!! they did my head in!!

JC, This is not my own family history but that of a family friend, who doesen't understand Genalogy at all ,yet she was thrilled at all  I had found out , but like all other non- dedicated  genealogists wasen't too keen on spending any money, so one can only do their best and thats what I did.

I'm not too sure now about the Elizabeth Clayton as I have no notes here now to confirm anything as I gave them all to Jennie,  this is  all just off the top of my head...   Hope this clarifies things for you, and many thanks for your dedicated interest...  Regards,Dolly

JC, just an after thought , most of this took place in Yarmouth, so me-thinks that's the place that would unfold the goings on of this family...

I would have gone into this a lot more  had it been my own ancestry, but I spent  all the Winter  month,s on Jennies lot,  she was satisfied with what I found... Now to get on with my own again.. Cheers Dolly

no probs Dolly... I think your friend is probably very happy with what you managed to find for her. I expect she is likely to be at the end of the English road anyway, I did wonder about an Irish connection when there was a lack of real evidence.  The first marriage may have taken place there too.

I agree Gt Yarnmouth would be the most likely place to unravel the mystery of the first Ellen Walsh.
