Ann Hollinshead - Boarding school in Horncastle
« on: Saturday 22 March 08 18:19 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

In an autobiography by the Rev Thomas Jackson there is a reference to Ann Hollinshead (who he married in 1809) running a boarding school in Horncastle in 1807 with her sister.

Does anyone have any information on this school or on Ann? Ann was born about 1784 and her father was Thomas Hollinshead. Her sister may have been called Jane.

I suspect that the term "boarding school" might describe something no bigger than a private house with half a dozen children but I really have no firm knowledge.

Any help or advice will be very useful.

Thanks, Roger

Thanks Ricky,

That's a very useful start. There are more schools that I'd expected.

Cheers, Roger
