1851 look ups, please - Hope
« on: Saturday 22 March 08 22:03 GMT (UK) »

Hi

Looking for the following:

Thomas Hope, wife Sarah (no birth dates) daughter Eliza b 1851 - possibly in Hankelow nr Audlem

John Hope, wife Elizabeth (no birth dates, Elizabeth may have died 1848), daughter Sarah Ann b 1846, son Alfred b 1848 - possibly in Buerton or Audlem

I've found the children's baptisms at Audlem but I can't quite fit them into my tree, tho I have some possibles. I'm hoping that a census entry or two may shed some light on this !

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Suz,

Gosh, that was quick !

It does look very likely - Alfred was not a common name at that time (in the Hope family anyway !). I must admit I haven't come across a marriage of a John & Jane, but then I suppose I wasn't really looking !!

Do they appear in subsequent years ?

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for your swift help anyway  Grin

Unless someone else comes up with anything, I will leave it at that for the moment !

At least I've got some ages to work with now - back to the files.....

My mary janes appear sometimes as mary others as jane???

Hi Suz,

Happy Easter !

Yes, that will definitely be them in 1851 - I had this Thomas pencilled in as the Thomas who was the son of John & Sarah, so if they're living next door then that clinches it as far as I'm concerned !!

I found a marriage in Mar Q 1851 Nantwich on FreeBMD of a Thomas Hope and possibly a Sarah Bloor (lots of other names but only one Sarah !) - interestingly, on the same page was a John Hope, and a Jane Walley !
Thomas the son of John & Sarah, had a brother called John, who I think was the one who married Elizabeth (probably nee Evans who I think died following the birth of Alfred), and you then found with a Jane !! So it looks like a double wedding ! The only fly in the ointment is that the John & Jane in 1851 already had two children born before 1851.........!!

It's Woolfall Moss by the way !

Cheers,
Chris

wonder if John who was married to Elizabeth remarried as a widower to Jane -the marriage cert would show if he was a widower?

Now that's clever !

I do have Thomas Hope & family in 1841, as his son Charles was my husband's great grandfather ! I never thought of looking next door / but one ! This Thomas was the brother of the John who married Sarah, so the John & Thomas we've been looking at were cousins to this Thomas's children (if you follow me !)

Yes I think that the younger John would most likely have re-married as a widower - would the Bertram Merrill Marriage Index show anything (I'm not sure what info it has ) ?

Cheers,

You thought Eliabeth may have died after birth of Alfred?

There is son Gerge age 2 in 1851

I can't find a birth reg of George Hope 1848'49 Nantwich -but I can find a birth Junqtr 1848 of george Walley???

Check out BMD -I may have missed it

Maybe jane Walley had illegit son George when she married??

Ooh, I like that theory !

I have an Elizabeth who was buried Audlem 29.4.1848 age 32 of Buerton, and the baptism of Alfred on 18th April, which is why I thought she'd died after the birth !

It was the presence of George & Harriet in 1851 that bothered me about the marriage in 1851 - but if George was Jane's not John's, then maybe Harriet was too - yes, just looked at FreeBMD and there she is b Mar Q 1849 !!!!
