PINE/PYNE one-name study
« on: Sunday 23 March 08 00:02 GMT (UK) »

Posted a message several years ago here. Have since enlarged my database, but still welcome information and queries. My own line comes from Honiton and Ottery St. Mary, with branches in Australia and New Zealand.
I am especially seeking info on Pine/Pyne families from Bridestowe and Kentisbeare at the moment.
Thanks, Darren

Darren.

I have a little data on my PINE relatives who originated in Devon and settled in the East End of London in the mid 1800's, did any of your Pines make their way
into London.

There were a number of Pine families living in the Poplar area of the East End of London from about the mid 1800's  to about the 1950's, many of these Pine families had a Mary Pine in each sucessive generation.

You indicated you have a Mary Pine who was born in Silvertown inthe 1800's,
Silvertown is a area within the then County Borough of West Ham, now the County Borough of Newham, the name changed was made in the mid 1960's.

Anyhow, Silvertown in the mid 1800's started to grow when the royal group of docks opened in the mid 1800, hence  many many factories started to go on line during this
time, one of the largest factories was the Tate and Lyle Sugar Company, plus many many
ofther manufacturing companies that provided work to the residents of Silvertown and other close by areas.

And would add that Poplar was close to the Silvertown area.

Thank you for that piece  of interesting information. There seems to be two treads going on about the Pyne name at the moment
