Hi All,
I'm trying to find families of William Willey and Anna Bastin. They were married in Ottery St. Mary in 1780. I think Anna was from Ottery (family name may appear as Bastong/Basten etc.) and William from the Tiverton area. I may have found parents (Richard & Hannah) for Anna in IGI but have very little on William.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Kevin

I have a Jane Bastin married to Thomas Burrow (one of my Burrows of course) in OSM in 1845. Jane Bastin was born in approx 1824-25 in Ottery St. Mary, Devon. She died in 1891. She married Thomas Burrows in 1845. They moved down to Veryan in Cornwall where they had several children but both eventually died in Cornwall.
Jane's parents were (AFAIK) John Bastin and Mary (surname unknown). Jane's siblings were (again AFAIK) John Bastin (married Susan Drew) and Thirza (sometimes called Theresa).
This is the 1841 census info I found.
1841 census
BASTIN JANE age 17 BASTIN JOHN age 45 BASTIN JOHN age 10 BASTIN MARY age 11 BASTIN THERESA age 7
Census 1841 TNA Ref HO107-0237 Folio No 6 / Page No 7 Enumeration District No 2
There may also be an older brother James Bastin aged 20. Still havent found him on the census.
Jane Bastin's baptismal records says her parents names were John & Mary.
There is also an OPR record for the following marriage. John BASTEN & Mary DAW at OSM on 27 March, 1810
But there is a long gap between 1810, and James' birth in 1820.
There are also a number of other Bastin children with parents named John and Mary Bastin.
EDWARD BASTIN Birth: FEB 1795 SARAH BASTIN Birth: 1804
THOMAS BASTIN Born 1811
It is possible that Thomas may be the first child after the 1810 marriage. Or that all of these children are John seniors siblings or cousins.
I must do more research on the Bastin's - they are a large family in OSM.

Thanks for getting back to me. A lot of Bastins in OSM can be good and bad news I guess - a lot of leads, but also a lot of records to trawl through!!
Thanks for the information on the 19thC Bastins.

Hi Cathy,
Not sure as the Bastin/Basten's are quite a long way back in my tree. All I know about them is that they came from Ottery St. Mary in Devon. Tavistock and Calstock are right over in the West of the county, bordering Cornwall. Ottery is in East Devon. Worth looking into though.
Cheers
Kevin
