Great Missenden Baptisms 1795/6

OK a weird request but does anyone have access to the Great Missenden baptisms for 1795/6 and could look to see how many baptisms there were for the first name Dardania in that period please?  There is a Dardania Elsborough in Harrow from 1841 to her death in 1865 who is the correct age to be the Dardania Eedle baptised to James and Mary in 1796.  However I haven't yet been able to find the marriage of the Elsborough male to the Dardania to confirm her maiden name.  It appears to have been sometime before 1828/9 when daughter Martha was born in Harrow.  Just curious as to how popular the name Dardania may have been in the parish at that time.

I could ask the Bucks FHS if they have done that parish on their baptism index but am a little skint at the moment chasing sidelines.

Great Missenden baptisms seem to be very well covered by the IGI.

I did a search for Dardania in Great Missenden on the Hugh Wallis site and your Dardania Eedle was the only result. Whatsmore, if you search on the regular Family Search site for Dardania baptisms in the whole of Bucks, she's the only result.

Curiously, there are also a number of those annoying submitted IGIs which have a Dardania Erdle/Eedle marrying a James Roles in London in 1798 - some kind of relation (aunt?)?

Thanks for that.  The IGI has good coverage but not all are on there unfortunately as I've some Eedles missing.  However with such a name as Dardania I can't believe there were that many born in the parish.  You are correct that the other Dardania Edel was this one's Aunt, she was baptised in Great Missenden in 1773.  I've lost her after her marriage in 1798 though.

I really need to have a look at the original registers to confirm it and probably also the Harrow registers to see if they give a clue as to who Dardania Elsborough was.  I think there is a very good chance that they are one and the same!

Hi Nicola,

Presumably the Dardania Elsborough living in Harrow between 1841 and 1865 gives her birthplace as Great Missenden on the 1851 census, and that's why you've cottoned on to Dardania Eedle? If that's the case, I'd say you were on to the right lady!

By the way, you've probably noticed that searching on Family Search and Family History Online for 'Elsborough' doesn't produce any results? Elsbury/Elsberry seems more likely. Still can't find the marriage though!

I'd go for a Bucks FHS name search - just don't tell the bank manager!  Roll Eyes

Yes you are correct that Dardania Elsborough has her birthplace down as Great Missenden in 1851 and 1861 (or I should say a weird variation on it but definately is Great Missenden).  Another interesting anecdote to this is that the FFHS website has a Kezia Eedle marrying a John Ketteridge in 1825 in Harrow!  I've no missing Kezia from Great Missenden and I can't locate John and Kezia on any census but Dardania Eedle's father had a sister Kezia, what's the bet they had another daughter elsewhere named after another of his sisters?!  Good chance.  Oh well, mystery continues I really do need to take a look at those Harrow registers.  Visit to the LMA on the cards I think ...
