Can anyone fill in some of my missing dates etc. please.
John PEACE born c1770 Stronsay married Janet FOTHERINGHAME 1771-1815 on ?
Their children:
John Anderson PEACE born 1800 married Euphan TAYLOR Stronsay on ?
George PEACE born1801 married Blaikie SHEARER born ? 1823 in Stronsay.
Helen PEACE born 1805 Stronsay died ?
Isabella Fea PEACE 1806-1888 died Latheron, married John GRANT born ?Caithness in `1828 Stronsay.
Patrick PEACE born 1809 Stronsay died: ?
Barbara PEACE born 1811 Stronsay died: ?
Janet Fea Fotheringhame PEACE born 1815 Stronsay married William YOUNG 1840 In Edinburgh.

re blaikie Shearer...have you heard that christian name before? First time I've ever come across it. Think you may have the answer that she is Rebecca who married George. As you will know there were heaps of Shearers in Stronsay.
ps: love the picture..one of mine has had her op another 2 to go!!

Hi from NZ. I have a Margaret PEACE born probably around1760'ish on Stronsay. She married James STEVENSON - date unknown. I can't locate any other details and wonder if you have any leads? Their son James, born 11 November 1781, married Baikie (Rebbecca) SINCLAIR, on 4 Nov 1813 on Stronsay.
My wife and I are visiting Stronsay again in November.

Hello Gordon, I too am visting Orkney but in September this year both for research & to see as much as possible. As I also live in NZ wonder if perhaps we are connected.
My g.grandfather was John Peace SHEARER born 1850 Stronsay...he had an elder brother born 1848 & both the boys came to NZ when aged 20 & 22 respectively.
John Peace Shearer settled at Wheatston, County of Ashburton after marrying a Margaret GILMOUR from Paisley Scotland, in Leeston, Canterbury. My grandmother was his daughter Agnes SHEARER who married John McLAUCHLAN.
Seems as tho' we will all be researching 2008. Plse keep in touch as I will with you. What one of us may not find perhaps the other will & vice versa.

Hi
I have visited Orkney and Stronsay 6 times since 1996 and love it. My father was born on Stronsay and I still have 1st Cousins there. Regarding accommodation in Kirkwall: stay with my cousin's daughter Ruth and Edgar Muir, 2 Dundas Street, Kirkwall Phone 01856 874 805. Great B&B reasonable and central.
Will keep in touch. Millers, Sinclairs and Peaces are geting distant now but I'm very interested in them.

Gordon...thank thank you for your postings, and really appreciated B&B you gave me.
Thank you also for offering to look up your address book for me..only when time...great. I have been trying to get hold of John Shearer who is related and has done a great deal of research but since my computor went on the blink a couple of months ago I have lost some data.
Will look up your Margaret Peace b: 1760ish Stronsay who married James Stevenson amongst my files. Stevenson doesn't ring a bell but Margaret Peace does ..let's hope she is yours.
Very much looking forward to hearing from you.

I just registered to send you a reply. I have a John Peace B:10.7.1765 on Stronsay Orkney in my tree. He was the brother of my g.g.g.g.grandfather. My info is a little thin on John, but here's what I have, He was baptised on 14.08.1765. He had a sister Elspet Peace B: 20.05.1764 Stronsay. And a brother William Peace B:3.5.1767 Stronsay, William is my gggg grandad.
The father off these three was David Peace B:c.1730.
David's wife was Elspet Flett also B:c.1730.

Have only just found your reply as I had already left on my travels end of July. In fact am still on them...now in USA but back in NZ 16

Joined Orkney Family History Soc. while staying in Kirkwall. They had lots of family trees etc. Unfortunately have sent my findings back to NZ (put my weight up for flying!!).
If you care to have a look at my forum at:
http:ancestralsearch.proboards101.com/index.cgi you will see quite a few details re Shearers & Peace on there also several other names connected with the islands you may be interested in. I also stayed on Stronsay the relation I stayed with, wife was a Peace.
Visited the 3 cemetries on Stronsay & took photos so hope I find some of interest to yourself.

Hello Gordon,
Just had to let you know I had a most wonderful stay with Ruth and Edgar & if I go back in 2010 will stay there again. Ruth's coffee is fantastic & Edgar's breakfasts served with his wonderful sense of humour, delicious. They are a grand couple.

Sorry I'm slow but that's what age does to you. We visited Orkney in December last year on a spir of the moment thing! Great to get your feedback and pleased you enjoyed B&B. I'm still chasing my Rebecca Sinclair from Stronsay but at a dead end. Don't think I'll ever get any further,
