Descendant of McGladrigan
McGladrigan Family Name

I am searching for any information on the family name of McGladrigan and its spelling variations. Hugh McGladrigan and his wife Catherine Goodwin are my 3rd great grand parents. Hugh was born in 1791 and is buried at Kerrib, County Tyrone.

His son Patrick emigrated to Australia in 1863 with his wife Mary Jane Butler.

Over the years of researching many McGladrigan names have been gathered and in some instances created links to my family tree. However there still remains many unlinked relatives particularly from the 18th and 19th centuries.

It would be interesting to know of where the McGladrigan name originated from. There are families of this name in Scotland which may suggest a source of origin.

If anyone can assist which information relating to the McGladrigan name please contact me.

A belated welcome to RootsChat.

Families named McGladrigan may have arrived in Ireland in the seventeenth century when George Montgomery, the Bishop of Derry, Raphoe and Clogher, brought communities of Scottish settlers into the counties of Donegal, Londonderry and Tyrone.
