McKay's
« on: Monday 24 March 08 02:47 GMT (UK) »

After a long search for Alexander McKay who I thought was born in Port of Monteith I think I have him..his death cert show parents as Thomas McKay and Margaret McKie (sor) (son) not sure and GRO has an Alexander born 24 Nov 1799 at Girvan Ayr but this is not shown in the IGI..the IGI does show another two children for this couple Elizabeth 1796 Girvan and Mary 1801 Girvan.  I cannot find any marriage for Thomas and Margaret can anyone help please.
Parish record for Alexander state -
Alexander lawful son to Thomas McKay in Shallochkiln and Margaret McKie *** born 25th and bap 27th of Nov 1799.

Where or what is Shallochkiln.

All help appreciated..patvp

I am also looking for information for Alexander MacKay.  However, there is no evidence they are one and the same.  I have no info for my Alexander except that his wife was Mary Finnock, but their son Alexander was born in1833-1835 in Ayrshire and married to Annie McJanet on Jan 18, 1985 Newton on Ayr.  If I get any info for your Alexander, I will let you know.  Good luck.

Hello Michelle,

I think you will find Mary's, name is a variation of Tunnock, not Finnock.

There is a marriage Alexander McKay, to Mary Tinnock, 05/Jun/1812/ Ayr, Ayr,
on the 1851, census index is

St Quivox, Ayr.

MacKay Alexander, age 59 years,
MacKay Mary, age 58 years,
Mackay Alexander, age 17 years.

The index only gives names and ages.
The parents are not on the 1861. census, so they most likely have died.

On Scotlandspeople, there is a death for a Mary Mackay, Tunnock, Ayr, Ayr. 1857, age 64 years, i think this is your lady.

Regards,
Jonn.

Jonn.
Thank you so much!  I would have been stuck forever on that one.  Your response is very appreciated.
All the best!
