John Franklin and Ann Ratford
« on: Monday 24 March 08 21:37 GMT (UK) »

Hi,
John Franklin and Ann Ratford were my 5x gt grandparents. They were married 13 Oct 1786 at Haddenham.
Iam looking for their baptisms, I'm not sure if they came from the Haddenham area.
Ann died in 1788 and John in 1840 (as far as I know I'm not sure if he married again)
Thanks.

Tempsford.

Does the marriage entry give any indication that either of them was resident in a parish other than Haddenham?

How old was John on death in 1840? There's a John Franklin baptised at Haddenham on 15 May 1765, son of John & Mary (BVRI). Of course if the marriage entry says he was from Yorkshire then this probably isn't him, but it looks promising! Can't see any Ratfords in Haddenham though

Hi David,
Thanks for the information. The marriage entry states John and Ann were both of the parish.
The baptism looks promising although there is a John Franklin bur 13 July 1766 described as a boy with no details of parents.
I couldn't find any other Johns baptised earlier.  John was 77 when he died in 1840.
There is a marriage for John Frankling and Hannah Ayres in 1790 but I am wondering if this is the John baptised 14 Aug 1768 son of Thomas and Ann. Huh

Thomas and Ann baptised two Johns in Haddenham - the first on 28 May 1766 and the second on 14 Aug 1768. The first one looks to have been the one buried a month later, and I agree that the second looks as though he was the one married in 1790. Which leaves the field clear for John baptised in 1765 to be yours - ages at death are notoriously unreliable, particularly the older the person was, so 77 looks pretty close to a 1765, or perhaps a bit earlier, birth.

Hi David,
Thanks for the information.
It certainly appears that my John is the one baptised in 1765. Grin
Now for Ann Ratford!
