the IGI has a Richard Baker ch.  25.11.1814 Braughing Hertford.

Father Richard Baker no mothers name given.

Braughing is quite close to Anstey

Welcome Carol!

I hope that you will visit us often and make lots of progress with your research. Please be sure to register your surnames on our SURNAME INTERESTS TABLE.

I'm afraid that as father's names and occupations were not given on marital records until 1837, a parish register lookup for the Anstey marriage of 1740 will not help you with your search for the couple's parentage.  In 1740 all that will be recorded will be the date of the marriage and the names of the bride and groom.  Witnesses, marital status and whether the couple were married by banns or licence were not recorded until after the Marriage Act of 1753.

This being the case, I have taken the liberty of changing your post title to "Richard BAKER & Mary GREY."  I am also going to move it over to the Herts GENERAL board.  Hopefully someone who has an interest in the family may be able to help as both BAKER & GREY are not uncommon names.  I have checked the BVRI for baptisms but there is nothing at Anstey or nearby for either Richard or Mary.
