George Beckwith BAKER
« on: Monday 24 March 08 22:30 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to solve a mystery
my ancestor George Beckwith (sometime missprinted as Becker) Baker  born in Anstey in 1819
His parents were William Baker 1787-1826, born in Anstey and a Mary Freeman 1780-1824 They married at St Marys Watford in 1808
George was a policeman and moved around Hertfordshire, Caddington, Watford, Rickmansworth, Gt Gaddesden, Hemel Hemstead and Wilstone
The name Beckwith has come down the generations as a middle name, his son George Beckwith Baker, grandson Henry Beckwith Baker, two further great grandchildren and a great great grandchild
I would love to know where the name originated
hoping someone may have a connection  thank you
Carol

Hi Carol

I can’t help you with your George Beckworth I’m afraid, but I’d be very grateful if could you tell me anything about Mary Freeman?

I have Freeman ancestors who were in Meesden (not far from Anstey). Unfortunately some of the Meesden records were lost years ago so I’ve more or less hit a brick wall with this particular line.

Regards

Lyndsey
