Waywell query Derby
« on: Monday 24 March 08 21:14 GMT (UK) »

My ggg/father, George Waywell was born at derby 1841. His parents names were John and Ann.  Thier surname later became Whewell and then Wheywell
In 1841 John and Ann were living at 9 River Street at Derby.
John aged 45 born at Meesham Derby and was a Bricklayer
Ann           30               Derby.

I have been trying to find out if John could have been married before, as there were no children with them in 1841, and with him being 45 just doesn't add up.
I would appreciate any advice on this one.
regards Carol

Hi Carol,

Given the age gap of 15 years I would think its very possible.

John would be born about 1798

There is this IGI entry.

John Waywell - Alice Royle  18.4. 1811 Winwick, Lancashire. Undecided

This would make him very young but the ages on the 1841 were rounded down. and it is only a baptism date.

patrish i do not think that is him
in 1841 there is a alice waywell age 50 living in winwick with children ages from 3mnths -25 years
but no john with her he could have died prior to 1841
she could be grandparent to the youngest children
i would have thought that if the john you posted was the correct one then alice would not be around in 1841

I was not suggesting that is was the correct one, just saying what I found and what I thought for elmination purposes.

The same as you have done

Thankyou for your efforts.

Here I have them in 1851 living at 51 Rivett Street Derby although I couldn't read John's age.

John   Whewell    born Meesham    occupation Bricklayer
Ann       39                   Leicestershire ? or could be Lancashire
Hannah 15
George  11
Joseph    4

Here they are in 1861

John     70 ?  born Meesham      Bricklayer
Ann      40 (ages wrong no doubt)
Joseph 14
Henry    6
also in same house was
Charles Buxton  24 S-I-L
Hannah Buxton  23  daughter
Ellen                     2  g/daughter
John                     1  g/son

I do have Georges Birth certificate of him being born 10 Sep 1841 and gives mother as Ann (nee Ward) and she signed her mark with a cross.

Once again Thankyou very much for your help

kind regards Carol
