BONUS Richard
« on: Saturday 03 April 04 23:13 UTC (UK) »

Researching the background of Richard BONUS, who said in his convict indent that he was a native of Meath, Ireland.
He was transported to Australia in 1836 and was tried at Kildare.
Any contact with this family name would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi Janette

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Thanks for taking the time to try and find something for me.  I can tell you a lot about him and his descendants in Australia, but as you can imagine, none of the convicts talked to family about being convicts or their homeland.
So I have posted all I know - thought someone may have heard of the family.
We think that the family may have come from either Portugal or Spain to Ireland, but don't know enough history, to verify it.
He is one of my brickwalls
Thanks

Further information my husband has just come up with.  Richard said his parents were Christopher and Bridget, and he was born approx 1813.

The one son he had was called James Roland Bonus, but they did name one of the girls Bridget.
