Hi,

I would like to obtain the death certificate for my great grandfather Frederick Palmer. I looked this up in the index a few years ago, and I remember going through pages and pages of typewritten images and eventually finding a Frederick Castle Palmer, died ?1930 - York ?registration district. Unfortunately I seem to have lost the quarter/volume/page information.

This seemed like the only possibility. All I really know is that he died prior to WW2 and was about 49 in the 1901 census. Fred always called himself Fred or Frederick Palmer on census information and his marriage certificate, and I thought Castle was his step-mother's name. It now turns out that his step-mother was his real mother and Palmer was his step-father's name. I'm not sure how he aquired "Castle" as a "middle" name, perhaps it was only when his birth certificate was checked at the time of his death!

I have checked the full GRO index for 1930 and he is not listed

You will need to search the full GRO index  which is available at your nearest main library if you live in the UK.  It can also be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite
