TAYLOR - Any Census
« on: Wednesday 26 March 08 10:01 GMT (UK) »

I'm trying to help a friend and am working on limited information.

Can anybody see a James Taylor, married to Sarah.  They married in Little Welnetham in 1832.  James I believe was born in Ipswich.  both born around 1812 I think.  Sarah could have been born in Little Welnetham, I'm not sure.  in 1841 they had James Alfred Taylor, b, Ipswich.

The information from the census I am looking for is birth places and ages.  Does James snr consistently say he was born in Ipwich?  Where does Sarah say she is born?  And their ages on census.  I'm trying to pin them down so I can make a trip to the local records office most effectively.

Kind regards

Umm, bit odd but sure looks like the right family. Surely James isn't still on his fishing trip!

How do you read that 1861 entry Newfster? Are James and Alfred actually in Wales? If so, what is the West India docks reference? And why just the single image? (no neighbours at sea I suppose  Cheesy)

There are a few possibles in 1841, but none 'grabbed me' ....

Well, its the younger son Albert with James - they are deffo in West India Docks, so how Anglesey / Holyhead etc has crept into the records I have no idea.

Each Vessel docked during the 1861 census was given an Enumeration District of its Registered Name (within the appropriate PIECE number)

This Page-link to the Enumerators description of the Vessel helps confirm the Ipswich connection and the job being done ...

hmmm - maybe its the PIECE number - this Holyhead entry in the Nat Archives seems to relate to 'British Ships in Home ports', rather than Holyhead the place    .... altho its not the same PIECE number as in the Esther's case  Huh Huh

Many thanks for all that.  Interesting that James was only around for two census.  Didn't realise that.

Given me something to begin with at the records office with their births though.

Many thanks
