Baptism Entry - Thomas Burfoot
« on: Wednesday 26 March 08 15:38 GMT (UK) »

I have really hit a brick wall with this one, so it's over to you Rootschatters!

I am trying to find the baptism entry for my GG Grandfather, Thomas Burfoot (Jnr). I will give you all as much as I know:

Thomas's parents, I believe, were Thomas (Snr) and Ann. Thomas Snr and Ann were married in Brislington, Bristol, 2 Nov 1802. In addition to Thomas Jnr, they had 3 other children:

Joseph - bapt. 13 Oct 1805, Temple parish, Bristol
Eliza - bapt. 4 Dec 1808, St James parish, Bristol
Hannah - bapt. 18 Feb 1827 (aged 12), St Philip & Jacob parish, Bristol

The information I have on Thomas Jnr is as follows:

1841 Census - Great George St, Bristol; Occ: Plane Maker; Age 25
1851 Census - Great George St, Bristol; Occ: Plane Maker; Age 39
1861 Census - 3 Newfoundland St, Bristol; Occ: Furniture Broker; Age 50
Death Certificate - 11 Feb 1869, 3 Newfoundland St, Bristol; Occ: Furniture Broker; Age 58

This would put his date of birth around 1811/12.

The only connection I have between the two Thomas's I have obtained from Thomas Snr's Death Certificate. Thomas Snr died in 1859 aged 81. The informant details are: Thos Burfoot. In attendance. 3 Newfoundland Street, Bristol.

I have tried searching the indexes prepared by the Bristol FHS and the IGI without success. Any ideas where to try next  Huh

Hi,

Sorry can't help with the baptism, but did you know that there is a court case involving Thomas Burfoot, furniture broker in the Bristol Mercury, Saturday Nov 9th 1861?

There is also a Thomas Burfoot from Newfoundland St. who was a shopkeeper that was fined either 5s and costs or given 7 days for possessing unjust scales and weights. (Bristol Mercury Dec 22nd 1860).

Also an obituary in the Bristol Mercury on Jan 6 1866 for a John, the son of Thomas Burfoot aged 16.

Thomas Burfoot (Marine Store Dealer) also appears in the Mercury on August 8th 1868, where an Emma Davies stole a quantity of rags from him.

His obituary is in the Mercury on Feb 13 1869.

Regards,

Darin, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
