Sackfield Asplin immigrated to South Australia with his wife Mary died at sea. I was wondering if anyone can look up her surname?
Sackfield would have been born abt 1813 in Stretham or Over, and may have been married perhaps in Littleport? Cambridge.
Sackfield's parents may have been Henry Asplin and Elizabeth Murfitt
Sackfield and Mary had two children when they came out
Alice aged 13 in 1850
Elizabeth who was an infant in 1850
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi Gaynor
Nor sure whether this is going to help much
The only marriage I can see on bmd is for an Isaac Sackfield Asplin in Q3. 1842 in Ely. Vol 14 Pg. 108 There are three Mary's on the page Mary Crabb, Mary Padget and Mary Rogers.
Having said that - if Alice was 13 years old in 1850, that marriage is probably too late However, the name is unusual so if not yours, maybe a relative ?

If you check the baptism index on the Cambs FHS site at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html you'll find his baptism
In 1841 enumerated as Sackful Aspland he was living in Littleport age 25 ag lab in the same household as Mary Rogers 20 and Ann Rogers 2, all born in Cambs
This may be the Mary Rogers that Mum44 found. Could Ann aged 2 be Alice? Begs the question as to whether or not she was Sackful's daughter
The marriage cert will give you his father's name - if it was Henry I think you can be fairly sure you have the same person. Later - I'm not convinced now about the marriage. There was an Isaac baptised in Ely in 1817 and there's an Isaac 34 and Mary 34 with no children living in Ely in 1851
BUT...I've just seen a baptism in Downham in 1837 of Alice Aspland daughter of Sackfield and Elizabeth. The plot thickens. I'll do some more digging

An Elizabeth Aspland died in Ely registration district, which includes Downham, in the September quarter 1839. Might be a red herring, might not.

Sackfield baptised 1813 had a brother John baptised at Stretham in 1820. (but most people had a brother named John so perhaps not too much should be read into it!)

Big Thank You
Mum44 Bedfordshire boy Suffolk Sue Anneb
I went to sleep (Australia) and woke up to some great work by you all. I would have thought with a name like Sackfield it would have been a bit easier to trace but I had no luck trying to track him down except for the Sackville which was available by internet. All makes better sense now. Just to complete the children's future in South Australia - Elizabeth died when she was 11 years old and Alice married when she was 20 years. Sackfield married when he arrived and had more children and died when he was 50. On the ships passenger list when they came over Mary (wife of Sackfield) surname was listed as Asplan. Thank you all

Thanks Gaynor for your help. I wasn't aware of this forum. Thanks also to all other posters.
My family is descended from Sackfield Asplin. I have been trying to find out the maiden name of his wife Mary who died en-route to Australia & any details of the two daughters he brought with him with no success. It does now seem that he was previously married to Elizabeth. The name Sackfield, previously Sackville appears in the Asplin line from a long way back but not amongst the Asplands, so I am assuming this must be him. Still doesn't seem to be any record for the marriage to Mary or second daughter Alice 1yr old in 1850. Any further information would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again
Julie

This looks like the birth reg. of infant Elizabeth, if you obtain this cert, it will hopefully list mothers maiden name.
Elizabeth Aspland 1849 Jun qtr Ely Vol: 14 Page: 77
I would say that Alice was probably the child of his marriage to Elizabeth and Elizabeth by his union with Mary. Could be Sackful and Mary never actually married.

HOw do I get the certificate? From Australia? Yes this does look like her, sorry my previous post stated Alice born 1849, it was Elizabeth, Alice was born 1837., to first wife Elizabeth as you suggested.
Yes! Maybe they never married, but this birth certificate would possibly have mothers name.
