Hi all a couple of weeks a go i posted for help searching for Rebecca Eliza Bishop,i now have her birth cert and am still no further forward.Heres what i have Rebecca Eliza Bishop born 21 feb 1900 Croydon Infirmary mother Minnie Bishop,Domestic Servant of Croydon,no father is listed. Rebecca had a sister Annie Elizabeth born 1905 in Croydon,on Annies marriage cert she states that Frank Bishop is her father,He was stated as a Labourer. Anyway been searching in 1901 and cant find no minnie and Rebecca but i find a Frank Farirman with wife Minnie and daughter Rebecca aged 1 in Croydon.I cant find any record of Frank and Minnie marrying,so i'm thinking possibly Minnie never married Frank, but what makes me think it might not be the right ones is i found a birth for a rebecca fairman in 1897 Croydon.
What do you guys think? ANy help with this is much appreciated. Thanks

Given that there is no fathers name on Rebecca's birth cert, it would be interesting to know whether the same applies to Annie Elizabeths birth cert
The 1901 entry you found looks a possibility as there is no Frank Fairman/Minnie marriage on free bmd nor is there a birth for Rebecca Fairman
Have you checked for a Minnie Bishop on the 1891 and possibly 1881 census?
The only one I can find in 1881 and 1891 was b Caterham 1879 not Croydon 1881. Parents were James and Celia. However - she is on the 1901 with mother Celia so cannot be the same Minnie

It could mean either unfortunately. Was Annie also registered as Bishop?

You may have to wait for the 1911 census to get any answers. Very frustrating I know

I havent got a clue as i live a fair old distance from croydon, but i posted on look up requests to see if anyone could check the infirmary records for me. At the mo i've got a list of all minnie bishops born 1875 to 1885 and i'm trying to narrow them down through elimination, its so hard though and so sad to think what happened to her and her children.

It's very possible this is the right Minnie Bishop you found on the 1901 census, Carole. There's no reason why she wouldn't be at home with her mother.
1901- Croydon Road, Caterham RG13/631/87/12
Celia Bishop wid 71 b. Chelsham, Sry Celia A. single. dau. 26 Dom. Serv. b. Holmwood, Sry MINNIE single dau. 22 ditto b. Caterham
In 1891 - 8 Cross Road, Caterham. RG12/582/106/40
James Bishop 57 ret. police srg. b. Hasely, Oxfordshire Celia 62 b. Chelsham, Sry MINNIE 12 b. Caterham
Her sister, Celia A. in 1891 is employed as a Housemaid to a Dora Pryce in Withyham, Ssx
Celia Bishop 16 H/maid b. Dorking.
Caterham & Croydon are not far apart & as Minnie was a servant it's not surprising that she would have found employment in Croydon.
Having said all that the Frank Fairman & Minnie living in Croydon with 1 year old Rebecca does look very tempting. That is if she never married Frank both the girls would have been registered in the name of Bishop but they put 'husband, wife & daughter' on the census for propriety's sake. The birth reg. of Rebecca Fairman in 1897 would make her 4 years old in 1901 so I don't think that's connected.

Hi Jane, Minnie never married Frank as far as we know she remained single all her life,i dont thin its the minnie born caterham as she married 1905 in stratford, annie was born that year and also there was another daughter called MAry whixh we know nothing aabout other then she was a ward! I have worked through all minnie bishops born between 1872 to 1885 and have traced all of them through, and have arowed it down to 6 possibilities, although theres nothing to say Minnie is her name and not a nickname, but would she really have used a nick name on her daughters birth? I have replied to you on my other post Jane concerning the inrifmary. Thanks xx

Yes i do Jane, the reasons are there is no Minnie Bishop born in Croydon, and she says shes 20 and born Croydon, there are no other rebeccas with mother called Minnie, No Minnie married a Frank Fairman,in fact only Frank Fairman i found getting married in croydon was 1915 and he married a murphy The age for Rebecca is right Minnies other daughter states a Frank Bishop as her father on her marriage cert
To be honest its also a bit of a hunch i suppose because it fits but i want to get whatever info ican get on Minnie before i really decide if its her,but i just cant find anyone else whom i suspect it to be,its very frustrating.... I you have any suggestions they would be much appreciated. xx
