Only William John EADE on FreeBMD born around that time was Dec qtr 1867 at Kensington, 1a 37.

In 1881 he was at St Saviours School at Ardingly in Sussex - from www.familysearch.org

Not sure of a Plumpton in Kent, but there is one in Sussex. He may have stayed there after leaving school.

Hi Lucy,

When did the daughter marry, and what was her name? Have you found them in any census?  Anything else you know would help as there are lots of William Eades in 1901 census

John William Eade's daughter May Delphine Emile Eade married in 1925.
She was born in 1900 but not listed with William John Eade as father on any census. In fact her mother married Arthur Eade b. 1870 in Norwich, Norfolk.
She is listed on the 1901 census with her mother Delphine Eade, Stepfather Arthur and brother Arthur. Transcribers got her name wrong and wrote Mary E Eade. They also got the birth wrong as she was 10 months old in 1901 and they though it said 10 years old.

Just as another clue to the puzzle William John Eade was a florist.
He witnessed his daughters marriage in 1925  in Plumpstead, Kent.

What further information does May's birth certificate give?

Births Jun 1900
EADE  May Delphine E    Bethnal G.  1c 154

and what further information is given on the marriage?

Marriages Mar 1900
Eade  Arthur     Lewisham  1d 1220
Stark  Delphine Georgina     Lewisham  1d 1220

Was May's elder brother Arthur's birth registered as Eade or Stark?

Thomas Edwin Eade was listed as the father of Arthur and he was a Cordwinder.

Who were the witnesses to May's marriage?

"Just as another clue to the puzzle William John Eade was a florist.
He witnessed his daughters marriage in 1925  in Plumpstead, Kent."

"Fathers name and surname William John Eade (deceased) Florist.?"

It can't be both.

William John Eade was deceased in 1925 when his daughter May Eade married William Val Miles at St James church Plumpstead. I misread it and it is Plumpstead not Plumpton as i previously thought.

May Eade has Arthur Eade listed as her father on the birth certificate but same mother Delphine Stark.

So if Arthur wasn't the father than the father could be someone called William John but not necessarily Eade (Eade given on her marriage for propriety's sake).

If Arthur married what father does he give on his marriage. The same as May?

Have you found May's mother on the 1891 census?

May's brother Arthur Frank Eade was married to Alice Beatrice Brooks in 1924, All Saints church, Newington, London. He lists his father as Arthur Eade (deceased) Police Constable.

This is all the info i have on Delphine Georgina Stark
In 1897 she was a ladies maid at 71 Cottage Grove, Clapham.

When she was married she lists her residence as 1 Hamburgh Place, High Street, Sydenham. She had been living with Alice Piggot and Henry Piggot. Alice is listed as a witness on her marriage certificate.

I can't remember if anyone looked up Delphine on other Census returns but i will look through my rootschat messages. Wink

It might be right but the woman on the 1891 census gives Switzerland as her birthplace. Your Delphine on the 1901 census gives Berkshire which is a bit of a difference.

A possible particularly if she was adjusting her age for a younger husband, but a slightly different surname.

Births Mar 1867
SLARK  Georgiana Delfine    Easthampstead  2c 402

What details does your Delphine give about her father on her marriage?
