Hello,
Family know that Evelyn Jane Newbury went out to Canada to marry her fiancee who had gone out previously. His name was Edward George Green.
Family know that they married in Canada in 1919 - if anyone can tell me how to get the details of their marriage that would be most helpful.
Family also know Edward died on the 18 Feb 1972 but how would I find out when Evelyn died? She was born 1 August 1887 in Whitwick, Leicestershire.
It is known that they had one son who was born before 20 April 1925 as Evelyn came home in this year when her mother died and brought her son with her - this was the only time she ever came back to England. The sons name was Clinton.
If anyone can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Tom.

Canadian records are organised by province so you need to have some idea where Evelyn and her family might have lived. As to getting marriage certificate, etc. it will depend on which province the event took place- each have their own rules about access to records- some information available online, some can be ordered and some are restricted depending on place and date.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I am afraid we have no idea where she went - is there a 1920 or 1921 Canadian census available online? If there was one I hope the rules are less strict than in the UK!
Looks like this may well be a dead end then.

Latest Canadian census is 1911. You said they got married in 1919- any idea where? Edward died 1972- where? Best clue might be to search for Evelyn and son leaving U.K. after their 1925 visit to England on www.findmypast.
Might have found comething: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html "Baltic" arrived Halifax, N.S., Canada 24 May 1926 from Liverpool Evelyn Green (38) English Edward Green (40) English
On FindMyPast: Evelyn Green b.1888 Liverpool to Halifax 1926. Edward Green b.1886 " ?Gunnar Green b.1889 "
No sign of son Clinton in 1926 but could this be him?: Clinton Edward Green b.1829 Liverpool to Montreal, Canada 1930.

Hello Tom
This I would think to be your Clinton Green reporting during WW2:
By line reporter Clinton Green: Secret Weapon Fearful Machine - Globe and Mail, 1944/07/31 http://collections.civilisations.ca/warclip/objects/common/webmedia.php?irn=5131897
Clinton Green reporting from the Front Lines in this article: Americans Use Secret Weapons in Tinian Fight - Hamilton Spectator, 1944/07/31 http://collections.civilisations.ca/warclip/objects/common/webmedia.php?irn=5131896
Found searching this Canadian War Museum website : http://www.civilization.ca/cwm/newspapers/intro_e.html

I have 5 articles from the Toronto Star that were written by Clinton Green. If you would like them, then send me a personal message with your email and will send them onto you.
Please don't post your email on the main board.
