Elizabeth Mcbain married John Lawson on 25 May 1828 in Auchterless.
(A search on the IGI brings up a John Lawson and Elizabeth McBain in Nigg, Kincardine and a birth to this couple of a Robert Lawson on 06 Jan 1831 with ch. of 25 Jan 1831. Only child born to a John Lawson and Elizabeth McBain in Scotland from 1830 to 1850. Regards, Steve :O) __________________________________________________________________ Further searching of the database only brings up a total of 41 John Lawsons in the 1841 census. The 2 nearest:
Parish: Durris, Kincardineshre
John Lawson - age 30 Farmer Betty Lawson - age 20 Katherine Lawson age 01
or at Inverey, Crathie and Braemar, Aberdeenshire a 30 year old John lawson a 'Dyker' in the household of Duncan Abercrombie.
I'm aware that even with the 'rounding down of the ages for the '41' census Betty is too young. __________________________________________________________________ Do you have them in the '51 census? Apologies for any confusion caused.....

Thankyou for the reply, I don't have them on the 1851 census. I have son Roberts marriage 1856 states mother and father both deceased also father John was a Sergeant in the 60th Rifle Regiment. Would appreciate any further help.
A possible death date for John Lawson would be most helpful as I am trying to establish whether Elizabeth McBain who came to Australia in 1841 as the wife of Alexander Pittendrigh had been previously married to John Lawson.
I have not been able to find a death for John Lawson, possibily he was killed while serving with the 60th Rifle Regiment, they only reference we have to his death is his son Roberts marriage cert. where he states both his father and mother are both dead
