James could not read or write nor could his wife according to their marriage cert, because both signed a + between their first and last name on the cert it has james moore not muir as spelling of surname same applies for james snr and his job was a mason ,their son was born malcolm m'kenzi muir in campbeltown 0n 27.2.1882,

Hi,

I am guessing the family Carol has found in 1861 is yours ..I think you will find that there is a death on SP for a Margaret Muir 1860-1861.It could well be yours.

It looks like James had two siblings!

Cheers Alison  Smiley

sorry to keep bothering you ali, i downloaded margarets death cert, but i cannot understand how james would have been john and sarah reids brother-in-law and how the others were his nieces and nephews and not his children, margaret did die in 1961 of consumption.

Hi Katrina,

On Margaret's death Cert who does it say Margaret Reids parents were? Was it Sarah & John?

This is Sarah & John in 1851 living next door to James & Margaret.

Hi,

Yes I to had a certificate like that...saying they were niece's and nephews when they should have been Grandchildren! I guess they couldn't write so wouldn't perhaps know what was written.
