Intend going to Orkney Late August September purely for research.  

Would greatly value your knowledge re the following names & if they are connected with Orkney .  Also any from Shetland.

DREVER
FOTHERINGHAME
HEDDLE
LAUGHTON
MAXWELL
POTHERINGHAME (which could be possibly mis-spelt meaninf FOTHERINGHAME

SHEARER

SUTHERLAND

The International Genealogical Index (IGI) which extends up to about 1874 shows the total number of marriages  in Orkney for the names you mention:

Drever  1842
Fotheringhame  158
Heddle  258
Laughton  384
Maxwell  61
Shearer  286
Tulloch  336
Sinclair  1499

There are 4 Magnus Shearer marriages - 1776, 1837,1840 and 1853.

Many thanks for your info Isles.

After joining OFHS while in Kirkwall have now added Scott( Sanday & Stronsay) & Craigie  (Sanday) to my ancestors.  Volunteers are extremely helpful & have built up excellent records.
