Tillington Hereford or Stafford?
« on: Sunday 30 March 08 05:44 BST (UK) »

Help me please!

I am trying to trace William Merricks born around 1814.  His 1841 census says he was born in Tillington near Stafford, but I was told Tillington is in Herefordshire.
The rest of the census data says he was just born in Stafford.
I have not been able to trace him further back anywhere apart from his marraige to Mary Johnson in January 1834 at St Chad in Stafford.
Can someone confirm where Tillington is for me?  As I really would love to find who his parents were.

Hi Suzy,

Genuki shows a Tillington in Staffordshire, in the registration district of Stafford.
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/REG/districts/stafford.html
I googled it and found a postcode for one address in Tillington (ST16 1SD) and typed it into google maps.

Thanks
You can see how I got confused, two Tillington's! I do think  it will be the Stafford Tillington as all of the other census results say he was born in Stafford.
Thanks about the reference to rubygemstone I will go and have a look at her page soon.
William's parents just seems to be one of those people who you hit a brick wall with.
