Could any kind person let me know if it is worth going to Bowness on Solway to look for grave stones? I am particularly interested in the Bewley and Pingney families (mainly 18th and 19th century).
Yes, he's one of them! Do you hace connections with him? Mary
Well, yes and no... Pingney Bewley married a Kirkbride and that is my main line in Whitehaven. Although Pingney is not in my line, I did follow his family quite closely to see if there was a connection. You know that he lived in Whitehaven? He was in business at 9 Tangier Street. I also have this which might be of interest to you:- Preston Quarter Cemetery, Whitehaven IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE LATE PINGNEY BEWLEY DIED JUNE 13TH 1900 AGED 72 YEARS ISSAC PINGNEY BEWLEY THEIR SON DIED JUNE 18TH 1910 AGED 51 YEARS WHO WAS INTERRED IN THE KRUGERSDROP CEMETERY SOUTH AFRICA.
If you write to me off-list Mary, I will put you in touch with someone who has a lot of research on this family. Best wishes, Jackie
You may not need to visit. If you go to www.reayw.freeserve.co.uk and click on "holme cultram" (I'm assuming bowness is in that parish) there are quite a few pingneys and Bewleys covering back to 1663. bob
