Hi all
had a really great few days I have heard from a lady who shares the same g g grandfather
JOHN NEEN born 1813 in the Isle of man she told me my g g great grandmother died in child birth having my g grandmother Ann Neen in Distington cumberland 2 years later John remarried and had 2 more children one being her g grandfather Robert she is doing the neen family tree and is a lot further back than me so i look forward to sharing info with her and i might add the same day I herd from a distant member of my husbands family that they are also doing the family tree and i was able to give him info i had a Navy record and it turned out that it was her great grandfathers so all in all its been a great few days hope this story gives you all a bit of hope and encouragement to carry on

they are nearly all from Maryport and Alanby as far as i have got

Hello, I have just come across your message about the name neen, I have it on my tree as Kneen, a John Alfred born abt 1867 in the Isle of Man, he married Sarah Blackburn in 1896 at whitehaven, but I think they were living at Arlecdon. Found they had one son, Harold b.1897. On 1901 census they were living in Arlecdon, but there is a connection with Barrow in Furness. Sarah Blackburn was my father's aunt.

all the Kneens in whitehaven are related various spelling over the generations KNEEN./NEAN all my Kneen family were pitmen my grandmother Mary Mcknight b 1870 Maryport was the daughter of John Kneen b 1813 Isle of Man and Hannah Marshall b Distington John was the first son of John Kneen b1791 and Mary Harrison .

Hello All,

I'm new to the site and was interested that you'd found a Neen in Cumbria - I am a Neen living in Shrewsbury (near Neen Sollars/Savage bizarrely and one of 4 sons) whose father is from the coast at Parton in Cumberland, though he lived away from there after the age of 14 and ended up in Bradford for most of his adult life married to my mother.
His father - my grandfather - was a robert also who worked as miner (at the Haig pit I think) then at Parton colliery and married my grandmother Tamar Neen (nee armstrong of scots decent) My Dad had/has 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

They lived in in Distington, Workington, Pica and Cockermouth if memory serves

There were quite a good number of cousons of mine up there whenever I was visiting as a boy, so was surprised you seemed to have found only one Neen as I recall loads of them. I assume the girls will have married and changed names.

Audrey - I'd love to contact the person doing the Neen tree as it sounds like I may have alot of info for them and my Dad is still alive to ask any questions and confirm the above if it helps.

I know of two separate Neen families who live in Whitehaven, I'm not sure if they're related. I didn't know Neen was such a rare name up here.

I am a direct descendant of
John Neen born I.O.Man 1811 he married Hannah Marshall 1836, she was born 1815 Whitehaven John & Hannah had a large family in Distington

I am a direct descendant of Jane NEAN c1808 Whitehaven, probably daughter of William and Ann. She married John BELL and bore him about 12 children in Whitehaven.
