hi folks, could some kind soul have a look for my Ann Clarke [with an e]. My current subs don't access the 1851
They live, still I hope, at 3 Essex st., St Matthew Bethnal Green MDX where they were on 26 Jan 1851 when the above John got married
1841 has them as Essex st. Ann Clark f 50 Not from MDX, shopkeeper Mary Clark f 20 MDX Martha Clark f 12 MDX John Clark m 15 MDX
unfortunately, i fear Ann's husband, John Clarke, grocer, may be dead, and not just away from home.
in the 1851 Bethnal Gn index of a certain e-conglomerate, i've found the following, but whether this is an Essex st address or not, i can't tell, but it does look very hopeful or they could have moved house in the couple of months prior to the census of course!
Ann Clarke f 63 b.c.1788 h/hold 70 Martha Clarke f 22 b.c.1823
Wm Clarke m 41 b.c.1810 h/hold 71 Ann Clarke f 35 b.c.1816
I'd really appreciate having these folks looked up
thank you for your time and trouble le durachd fionnghal

the name is transcribed (ancestry) as Tubra -could be Subra - very difficult to read.
I have found in 1861 at 12 Albert terrace Paddington Joseph Juda servant 15 Errand boy b. Middlesex in household of Robert Stuart 30 Baker Scotland and wife harriet 30 b Middlesex RG9 2 162 26
and also there is a Joseph Tanter (transcribed Santer) living in Bethnal green with parents Joseph/Hannah
but this is just guesswork
if you care to PM me your address I will send you the 1851 image

Thanks a million, Suz, for all your help, off and on-line. I got there in the end.
You were right, the Tubra was suspect, it turns out to be Subra
with much trawling back & forth between FreeBMD and my subscription sites, and your help, Suz, i discovered that the above grandson, Joseph Tubra was indeed Peter Joseph Subra, son of the above dau Mary Clark/e [20yo in 1841 census] and John Peter Subra, a Frenchman, b.c.1820.
FreeBMD marr: John P Subra m. Mary Clarke, Bethnal Green Jun 1/4 vol/pg 2/51 birth: Peter Joseph Subra b. Bethnal Gn, Sep 1/4 vol/pg 2/5
John Subra turns up first in St Mary Southampton HAM, 20yo, foreign, though with no occ. indicated
1861 census Bethnal Gn RG9/253 folio 130 pg.12 sch.64 has the family, John & Mary Subra, wee Joseph now 16, and 5 other siblings .
I haven't found them yet in the 1851 or 1871 censuses, probably mis-transcribed name again. But mum, Mary Ann Subra, nee Clarke, is still going well at in the 1881, 60yrs old with 2 sons living with her and again in the 1891 at 71yrs living with son Peter J, a mariner.
Unfortunately, i never found the original dad, John Clarke, who must have died before the 1841, but i've made a great leap backwards with my research.
Thanks again le durachd fionnghal
