At(t)well Family History
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 18:56 UTC (UK) »

For those interested in the At(t)well family, a recently written book chronicles the lives of six generations of Attwells covering the period 1636 - 1890. Although concentrating in detail on these six generations, the book also identifies the tiny village close to which the ancestral family lived at least from 1299 until well into the 1700s.
“A History of the Attwell Family (1636-1890)” comes out at 335 pages. Details and samples may be found, and copies purchased on-line at http://www.lulu.com/attwell . Printing and delivery takes about a week.
For those who want to sample a taster first, or who prefer to acquire the set by instalments, there are also six separate Booklets (also available as downloads), each one covering just a single generation, as follows:
Book 2: John Attwell (1636-1711)
Book 3: Charles Attwell (1686-1749)
Book 4: William Attwell (1728- )
Book 5: Robert Attwell (1763-1848)
Book 6: James Attwell (1787-1851)
Book 7: Romeo Theodore Attwell (1812-1890)
All these books are extensively illustrated and describe in some considerable detail the lives of our At(t)well ancestors, where they lived, what they did, their families, occupations, and the often troubled times in which they lived. They give much biographical detail, innumerable family tree charts, and the sources from which the main factual evidence was obtained.
The At(t)wells range from humble weavers, schoolmasters, watchmakers and butchers, to rich merchants who knew the King of England. There are stories of those who rose to become Masters of their Livery Companies, of hardship and heartbreak, of fortunes made, descent into penury, arrest warrants and periods in gaol, disputes, bankruptcy, slander and contested wills. There are livelihoods that survived the wrath of the King, some destroyed by the Great Fire, and others which used dubious practices to build their businesses.
This history shows an amazingly rich and diverse history, and provides a rewarding experience for all members of the At(t)well family.
