Hi,
I am looking for the children of Frederick & Harriet Snookes of Ecclesfield / Wortley / Ryhill, here is what I know:
1881 Census Dwelling West Side Census Place Wortley In Wortley, Yorkshire, England PRO Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 4615 / 59 Page Number 10 Harriet SNOOKES, Head, Married, 28, b. Wortley, Yorks Hannah SNOOKS, Daughter, 9, b. Ecclesfield, Yorks, Scholar Thomas Wm. SNOOKS, Son, 7, b. Ecclesfield, Yorks, Scholar Letha SNOOKS, Daughter, 4, b. Ecclesfield, Yorks
Dwelling 17 Commercial St Census Place Barnsley, York, England PRO Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 4600 / 106 Page Number 60 Frederick SNOOKS, Lodger, Married, 33, b. Sheffield, Yorks, Coal Miner
Frederick was born in 1847 Fred Snooks Q4 1847 Sheffield XXII 574 D.o.B. 23/10/1847 Harriet was born in 1851 No Birth Index entry but D.o.B. 23/12/1851, Wortley, Yorks
Frederick & Harriet were married in 1870 Q4 1870 Wortley 9c 307 Fred Snooks to Harriet Simpson
the children on the 1881 census were born as follows: Hannah Snookes Q1 1872 Wortley 9c 213 D.o.B. 7/12/1871 Thomas William Snooks Q4 1873 Wortley 9c 259 D.o.B. 17/12/1873 Letitia Snooks Q4 1876 Wortley 9c 276 D.o.B. 30/10/1876
By 1894 the Family had moved to Ryhill where another son was born George Frederick Snookes Q4 1894 Hemsworth 9C 176 D.o.B. 22/10/1894 (this is my direct ancestor)
The dates of birth are from my Grandfather's research into our family tree, he also listed 3 other children of the marriage: Alfred Snookes John Snookes Mabel Snookes
I have had no joy in finding potential birth index entries for these 3 and am hoping that the 1871/1891/1901 census entries for the family might cast some light on where Granddad got his information from, along with places of birth & ages. I assume that it is possible that at least one of the children was born before Hannah and died before the 1881 Census and so may be on the 1871 census
Thanks for reading, Ian Forrester

Hi Sandra,
Wow, well that was totally unexpected, thank you for the look ups. Frank Ridgeway is news to me
I wonder if any of the children were staying with Hannah, Thomas or Letitia in 1901?
Hannah Snookes married Henry Smith Q1 1894 Hemsworth 9c 208 Letitia Snookes married William Ernest Birch Q2 1900 Hemsworth 9c 302 Thomas William Snookes was married Q4 1898 Barnsley 9c 295 to either Hannah Horbury or Teresa Marsden
could you look them up for me please?
Ian

Sandra,
No problem, I am in the US now so we are 5 hours apart anyway. Thank you so much for all this information. I guess I am going to have to rethink the search for Arthur, Mabel & John.
However, you confirmed that Thomas william Married Hannah Horbury, found a child of that marriage I didn't know of and found Frank Ridgeway!!
Interestingly my Granddad's name was Frank even though the name doesn't appear anywhere else in the family line, so maybe he was named for Frank Ridgeway.
Thanks again for all your work, much appreciated, Ian

P.S.
on the 1901 Census for Henry Smith, his birthplace was Havercroft, just up the road from Ryhill
