Hi Andrea
I can only find one William Mead in Chesham on the 1841 of the right age to be Abel's father but he is living with a Lucy Mead, both aged 60, he is a carpenter though, the same as Abel.
HO 107/47/14 p4 Hundridge Hamlet of Chesham.
Strangely enough your Abel is living next door to my Grt Grt Grandparents in the 1851 in Waterside Chesham.
Looks as if there could be a good chance that his parents were William & Sarah Butt as, from the IGI, the first child Sarah was born 1804. I see they were all registered at "The Old Meeting House Baptist" in Chesham.
I'll have another look & see if I can find where Lucy might fit in.
Hope this is of some help.
Maddie

Hi Andrea
I'm not doing very well here, they are a bit of a muddle aren't they. I found who I think is Lucy on the 1851 (name spelt Meads), HO 107/1717/292 P3, lodging with an Ann King. Her age is given as 73 & born in Wycombe.
No wiser as to who she is though.
Lucy & William are the eldest Mead's in Chesham on the 1841, the other family is a William born 1816 & wife Harriet with children. I wonder if he is the William born to William & Lucy. If you would like there details let me know.
There is also a Sarah Mead supposedly born 1823 but to be honest I'm not sure what her age is on the image. She is lodging with a Dell family.
I found a Lydia Mead buried Chesham St Marys 17th Feb 1814 aged 87, no sign of Benjamin, & a burial for Mary Mead Chesham St Marys 30th May 1817 aged 23. I wonder if she is the granddaughter of William Channer.
There are a few Mead's in Amersham & Chenies who could be related to yours.
I don't know if any of this is helping you but I'm trying.
