Trying to trace grandfather, can anyone please give any information or lead to this person? Believed to have been born in Hereford, possibly Staunton on Wye, Mansell Lacey or Eardsley. Definitly born in 1893. As of yet I have been unable to find any records within the cencus. To my knowledge he worked on the GWR railway, as a railway clerc, shunting coal from Brecon to Swansea. It is thought that his family possibly owned an orchard in the area. He had 1 sister, Alice Smith, who married a man believed to be from Llangors Lakes in Brecon. He had four half brothers and two half sisters, going by the surname of Williams from his mothers 2nd marriage. Their names: Ivor, Cecel, Sidney, William(Bill), Dorothy(Doll) and Mary.  Thanks.

I cannot find James Samuel Smith born in Herefordshire 1893 using freebmd so what is your evidence?  I have found Samuel James Smith born in the Weobley registration district in the Jul-Sep quarter of 1893 (GRO reference Samuel James Smith births Jul-Sep 1893 Weobley 6a 517).  Is it possible that he changed the order of his names later on in life?
