John Smallman married Mary Wood, was her Dad richard??Help needed!

I have A John Smallman marrying a Mary Wood 19.10.1801 Upton Bishop, Herefordshire. This is on Family Search, but has also been checked out in the records by a contact. Neither John Smallman or Mary Wood was baptised in Upton Bishop, as the contact checked this out. I have since found out that John Smallman was born in Kempley, Glos, but Mary Wood remained a mystery.

Today I have been contacted by someone on Genesreunited who has a connection to a George Smallman (great grandson of John smallman and Mary Wood) via his wife Emily WOOD. I did have the details of George and Emily and wondered if there was a connection between Mary Wood and Emily Wood. The person from genesreunited does have a Mary Wood baptised 21.2.1779 Oxenhall, Glos. I have a rough date of birth for my Mary Wood of 1780. Oxenhall, Glos is very close to Kempley and this Mary's family moved into Upton Bishop as her yougest sibling was born there in 1867. So she's in the right place to marry John Smallman in 1801.

Now I know this Mary's parents were Richard Wood b c1740 Oxenhall, Glos and Elizabeth unknown. What I do need to find out id when john Smallman married Mary Wood 19.10.1801 Upton Bishop, Herefordshire, would her father have been listed? If so is there anyone out there that could check this out for me. It may prove the two Mary's are one and send me back 4 more generations!

I hope this isn't too muddled...I'm happy to clarify if so!

Father's names weren't included in early parish registers. You're only hope is if he was a witness.
If you contact Hereford Record Office they will copy the register entry and post it to you, think it costs £5.
