SMITH or WILLIAMS from herefordshire or surronding areas
« on: Monday 31 March 08 21:26 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know any links or leads to my grandfather JAMES SAMUEL SMITH born 1893. Had a sister ALICE SMITH who married a gentleman from Llangors Lakes in Brecon. Also had four half brothers and two half sisters from his mothers 2nd marriage. IVOR WILLIAMS, CECIL WILLIAMS, SIDNEY (SID) WILLIAMS, WILLIAM (BILL) WILLIAMS, DOROTHY (DOLL) WILLIAMS and MARY WILLIAMS. All believed to be deceased and born within 10-15 years after 1893. Are there any relatives of the persons mentioned that can help me.

There is a birth for Samuel James Smith Sep. qtr. 1893 Weobly (Weobley) Herefordshire 6a 517 and all of the names you mentioned are registered in 'Weobly'.  Do you know Samuel James parents names?

hi, thank you for your reply. We have recently found out that he was in fact from weobly, and that his half brother's son still lives in the area we believe Samuel James Smith came from, The Sergeants near little london in Hereford. But as for his parents we are a little confused and can't match up any certificates, and would be greatful of any help or information. We are sure that his mother was Ada Violet Smith as family members can confirm along with a death certificate we have from around 1958, but we know of, nor have any record of his biological father. She married his step father A. Williams around 1901 which would make her Ada Violet Williams and doesn't list any Smith's as witnesses. She is listed as a spinster which should mean it was her 1st marriage, but we would like to find some documentation that links the Smith name. Thanks for your help

Have you had a look at the 1911 census?  Does that give any clues?

On the marriage cert between Ada and Arthur, what is the name of Ada's father?  And what age does Ada say she is?

Sorry for the barrage of questions!

Best wishes,
