Buckfastleigh
« on: Friday 14 January 05 15:35 UTC (UK) »

Whilst researching my Chaff family over the last 20 years I have acquired various oddments of information relating to names of people in this parish. I am quite happy to look  at these for anyone who had relatives there.  I may not have the info - but I can look.

Hi there

My family were the Willcocks' of Buckfastleigh but I also have a record of marriage that my 3 x Great Grandfathers second wife was Amelia Palmer Chaffe nee Merryfield.  She married William Chaffe a Gunner in the Royal Artillery in the Totnes Registration District in 1854?.  Do you have a record of this marriage, perhaps in Buckfastleigh?  They had a daughter Annie Amelia Chaffe born 1862 Portsmouth, Dorset who married William Henry Abbott 08 Mar 1884 Dean Prior, Devon and lived & had family in Buckfastleigh.

Thanks

Kieran

Hello Kieran
Thanks for the query and sorry I have not been able to reply before today.  I do not have the marriage to which you refer, however, I searched for any Willcocks information and found as follows in Buckfastleigh register:-
07.11.1755 Baptism Mary Willcocks dau. of John and Agnes
27.05.1762 Bapt.     Mary Willcocks daughter of Elizabeth  (no father)
04.07.1762 Bapt.     Edward Willcokcs son of Georgeand Jane
06.02.1780 Married Agnes Willcocks to John Grant  (B.T.'s)
Hope these may be of some use
Best wishes Angela
