Incidentally, I found them in the 1900 census listed as 'Harland'. They are in Quincy City (can be seen at http://search.labs.familysearch.org/ )  Not too much extra info other than that John and Margaret had been married 25 years.

Annie, the Nottingham  Harling is interesting, as you know my wifes paternal side was Harling, and although we think they originated in Westmorland, (not confirmed) there is a connection with Nottingham, Thomas Harling moved there in c.1889, and we wondered why, maybe there were Harling's there already ?, there is another  Harling researcher, and they are connected to the Yorks. Harling.
On another tack, my surname is Bacon, and my information is that Gen. Custer, married a Annie Bacon ?.

Didn't mean to go off topic ... but couldn't resist !!  Smiley

Marriage

Custer married Elizabeth Clift Bacon (1842–1933) on February 9, 1864. She was born in Monroe, Michigan, to Daniel Stanton Bacon and Eleanor Sophia Page. Following the Battle of Wash*ta River in November 1868, Custer was alleged (by Captain Frederick Benteen, chief of scouts Ben Clark, and Cheyenne oral tradition) to have had a sexual relationship during the winter and early spring of 1868-1869 with Monaseetah, daughter of the Cheyenne chief Little Rock (killed in the Wash*ta battle ). Monahsetah gave birth to a child in January 1869, two months after the Wash*ta battle  Cheyenne oral history also alleges that she bore a second child, fathered by Custer, in late 1869

from that website, annie....

!01       January events in history, v. 91 M, SN 0000
!01       Copyright 1990, Robert Braunwart
D01151926 John Harling, last survivor of charge of the Light Brigade, dies at 93
John is among a list of MANY other folks.

I tried searching for Robert Braunwart and it appears he was a diligent researcher of lots of miscellaneous information. It would be great if I could just find his source for the above.
