Henry Rogers born Finglesham 1799
« on: Tuesday 01 April 08 09:42 BST (UK) »

My g.g.g.grandfather Henry Rogers b.1799 lists his place of birth at Finglesham, Nr Deal.  I've looked at the IGI, but cant find anything about him.  (new to IGI so could have missed it)  where do I search next?

Regards

Thanks guys, yes I have them.  But I cant get any further back.  Henry give his place of birth as Finglesham,  which is a hamlet of Northebourne, which is a village by Deal. ( I think).  I just cant seem to find a reference to him in the parish register.

Have you tried searching in Hacklinge, as hacklinge and finglesham meet each other. Also might be worth searching Worth, as Hacklinge Holes features in the Worth census, I've lived in all three places and so close together.

Hi again,

20 Dec 1767 Christenings for the parish of Nonnington, show a John Rogers son of Robert and Amy Rogers

and also

9 Jun 1799 of Amia Roggers (Rogers) daughter of John and Elizabeth Rogers.

also a:
Petition of Inhabitants of Ash, dated 6th July 1830 that lists an Edward Rogers and also a William Rogers

I also have a copy of:
Relocation of Thanet People to Deal & Eastry Settlement Certificate, which mentions Henry Rogers twice.

:Once as a reference for a Thomas Biffin and family and then again John Jordan and family, although I'm not sure of the date for this document.

There is also a Rogers Grave at Worth.... though of the top of my head can only recall surname Rogers and connection with Buley, which is listed on the Stone.

It may help or may not

Regards

Hi Claire, thanks again for your help.  I did what you suggested previously, with the census's but with no luck.

You seem to have some incredible doucments, and I will note the contents incase I should I be able to link them in the future.

I'm still relatively new to research, so its lovely for me to hear of new types of documents, and ideas of other things to do in searching.  Thanks so much for your input, its well appreciated.

Kind Regards  Chrissi

Hi Chrissi,

Had five minutes so popped into the Woodnesborough Churchyard.
Rogers as listed:

John Rogers 31st Jan 1875 Aged 70 years
John Rogers (son of the above) who died in infancy (date was too bad worn to read)
Mary Ann (Wife of John senior) think its reads April 1881, Aged 80.

Then on the Great War of 1914-1918...
W Rogers under the 1914 section.

Alice Sarah Rogers, 30th April 1925, Aged 57 years
(Wife of) Charles Edward Rogers, March 27th 1953, Aged 83 years.

Finally
Ernest John Rogers
20th June 1905 - 17th July 1995.

Weather is now better, so I'll get up to Northbourne and Eastry and have a look for you

Take Care Chrissi

Hi Claire, Thanks for that.  I've got about 8 from the parish records too..  Havent been able to link them yet.  lol. But it will happen I'm sure.  There was not really a lot of Rogers about in those days.

The weather is lovely for outside research!   Grin
