find my family
« on: Tuesday 08 September 09 15:22 UTC (UK) »

hi everyone thanks for all your help.
I have more information that may be useful with my enquiry.
My mother married William McCauley from Derry City in N. Ireland,
in April 1950/51 then moved to N. Ireland.
She had one brother who was in the army and a sister who ran a local inn near an army barracks.  She had more siblings but I am not sure what they did. I hope this information helps and look forward to hearing from anyone
who recognizes this information. Smiley

Raymond

There seems to have been only one marriage involving people with the surnames McCauley and Horler in the Shropshire area. It was registered in the second quarter of 1951 at Wellington and the GRO reference is 9a 526.

The marriage certificate might provide some useful information from which to progress.

I have contacted the youngest sibling from a family which I thought might be yours but I am now certain that they are not your ancestors.

The lady who married William J McCauley in 1951 had exactly the same name as one of these people but it is now clear that this lady married someone else and remained in the Bristol area all of her life.

The only other birth registration for someone of the same name as the lady who married Mr McCauley, was in 1929 at St Asaph with a mother’s maiden name of Ingram. I cannot, however, see any siblings registered with the same combination of surnames.

There is a possibility that it was your mother who was born at St Asaph in 1929. I think that this lady’s mother was called Edith M Ingram and she married Robert E Horler in the last quarter of 1928 at Newport, Monmouthshire.

There is a death registration in the second quarter of 1929 at St Asaph for an Edith M Horler (aged 24). This is the same quarter in which the child was born.

There is then a marriage registration for a Robert E Horler in the first quarter of 1930 at Madeley, Shropshire to Margaret M Davies. There are also several births in that area for Horler children with a mother’s maiden name of Davies, some of whom could be your mother's (half) siblings.

Hello Raymond

The information in my last reply is correct.

I have traced and made contact with one of your mother's brothers and I have his address and telephone number. He and his wife are happy for me to pass the details on to you so that you can make contact and they will be able to give you lots of information about the other (many) siblings.

Also ....

The family found by Gadget on your other thread is correct. Robert (Edward) Horler, born 1900, is your grandfather.
