google produces plenty of insight into BSA history, but the actual names of the gunsmiths is elusive.

What was the name of your ancester and what dates would you consider that he was working? Did he have his own business or was he employed? I have some information on the Birmingham gun trade, but knowing who I am looking for would help.

Birmingham had a huge gun trade and many people were involved with specific parts of the industry; eg. lock, stock or barrel makers and supplied such to gunmakers.

Hi David,

I know some of mine were in the gun trade in Birmingham and wondered if you had any information  Undecided  The names are William Ball, he goes between gun machinist and gunsmith from about 1880 to 1920.  Also, my Gandley/Ganley were in the gun trade as well and believe worked at BSA.

Thanks,
Karen

Lynne,

The founding of BSA predates your Thomas Perry. Birmingham Small Arms Co was founded on 7 June 1861. The name Perry does not feature in any of the names I have to hand.

Karen,

You could try searching the Historical Directories at www.historicaldirectories.org

Browse to the Warwickshire ones, then search those for Birmingham.
