Hi everyone, i'm new to this site, and like you trying to search my family tree.
At the moment i feel like i am banging my head against a break wall.
I am trying to trace my Grandfather, born in Hull around 1909/1910/1911, moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne and married my Grandmother Margaret Wear, nee Mcguinness.
They had 3 children:-
Joan Elliott now Lumsden
Rebecca Elliott now Bridle
Douglas Patrick Elliott D.O.B 28 July 1943 died 28 July 2007, this is my father, if anyone can help i would be grateful.

Hi Barbara, i am hoping to do a full family tree and give to mum.
My Grandfather's name was Christopher Elliott, unfortunately i do not know his parents names and i don't have a marriage certificate. Do you think it might help if i asked mum if she still has her marriage certificate.

Everything helps! Your parents' marriage cert would just show his name and occupation, it's his marriage cert you need. The more you can find out from relatives the better.
Here's your grandmother's first marriage registration:
March Quarter 1925 Newcastle T. 10b 149
Margaret McGuinness to James Wear
So she must have married Christopher Elliott between 1925 and whenever the first child was born to them.

on freebmd there is a birth registration for a Christopher Elliott
Dec Quarter 1909 Sculcoates 9d 196
That certificate can be ordered from the General Register Office site, those are the reference numbers needed. Here's the link to the online GRO site for certificate ordering:
www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
The same birth is registered in Drypool and shows up on the Yorkshire bmd site:
http://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi and there's a downloadable order form for that certificate on the website so that you can post the order to Hull register office.
It looks a good possibility and he was the only Christopher Elliott registered in Hull area around those dates you gave.
To find his marriage, you need to look through the full GRO index quarter by quarter from 1925 onwards as those marriages are not indexed online for Newcastle yet.
It's probably better to find the marriage first though, then you can check his father's name from the marriage cert before buying his birth cert
Do you know the age of the oldest child of that marriage, to help narrow down the dates?

Hi Barbara, i think i might have found their marriage date Dec Qrt 1935.
Their oldest daughter my auntie Joan Elliott D.O.B 1938, which i have just found out too.  .
