Message to Elmca. I'm new to RootsChat but noticed your messages on the Young family history, in particular you mentioned on 02 June that your gg-gf was a James Young born 1826 in Channelkirk to father James Young and mother Mary Liddel. I believe that we might have the same gg-gf and would be interested in any other infomation you may have found out about the family. For instance you mentioned that father James's parents were Robert Young and Jane Murdoch - do you know anymore about this couple??? For your infomation my side of the family ended up in Fife. Many thanks Dave

Hello Elaine, Thank you for your reply. Here are a few facts about the Young family in Fife. My Grandfather was called Thomas and his parents were James Young and Ann Shiel, or Shiells. Thomas married a Catherine MacPhail in Burntisland on 5th Dec 1902 and they lived for some time at Newbigging, Burntisland before moving to Kingskettle. They had 8 children of which one was my father and his name was John. Dave

Hi DDJJAKE, John Watson Redpath was my great, great, great grandfather. His son Robert was my great, great grandfather. I was never able to find out who his parents were. He was married in 1842 in Coldstream. I suspect this was a civil or "irregular" wedding (his first daughter, Joanna, was born two years earlier). I could never find the marriage certificate or his birth certificate although we know he was born in Sprouston in 1822. His death certificate does not list his parents. The informant was his son James who was residing at 62 Northwoodside Rd. Glasgow. I do not know where the "Watson" in his name came from. Did you have any luck yourself? Regards,
